Donor consent

How Zuzu treats blood donors — voluntary, transparent, and never transactional.

Last updated: 20 April 2026

Blood donation saves lives, and it must stay voluntary. This page sets out the principles Zuzu follows when onboarding donors, handling donor data, and routing donation requests.

1. Voluntary, not transactional

Zuzu never pays donors, and requesters never pay Zuzu to match with a donor. Donation is a gift. We will reject any attempt to use the platform for paid, solicited, or coerced donation.

2. Who can be a donor

Donors must meet the medical eligibility criteria under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules and guidance from the National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC). Broadly:

  • 18–65 years of age.
  • Weight of at least 50 kg.
  • Haemoglobin of at least 12.5 g/dL.
  • Free from transfusion-transmissible infections.
  • At least 90 days (for men) / 120 days (for women) since the last whole-blood donation.

The final eligibility decision is always made by the licensed blood bank or hospital at the time of donation — not by Zuzu.

3. Verification

Before a donor appears in search results, we verify identity through Aadhaar (with consent) and cross-check blood group against medical records the donor uploads. No unverified donor is listed.

4. Consent to be contacted

Donors choose the blood groups, radius, and times they are available to respond to requests. No donor is shown to a requester without that explicit opt-in. Donors can pause or withdraw consent at any time — the opt-out is always one tap away.

5. Privacy and anonymity

  • Donor phone numbers are never shared directly. Communication is routed through an in-app masked relay.
  • Personal data is encrypted in transit and at rest and accessed only on a need-to-know basis.
  • Donor information is never sold, licensed, or exchanged with third parties for marketing.

6. Requesting a donor

Requesters must confirm that the request is for a real, non-commercial medical need. Abusive requests result in permanent suspension. Zuzu may involve the partner blood bank or hospital to coordinate the donation safely.

7. Safety and after-care

Donation, testing, and post-donation care happen at licensed blood banks. Zuzu shares educational content and gentle reminders for next-eligible donation dates, based on the donor's own opt-in.

8. Withdrawing consent and data

Donors can, at any time, remove themselves from the network and request deletion of their personal data under the DPDP Act. We will comply in line with our privacy policy.

9. Reporting concerns

If a donor or requester experiences anything that feels unsafe, coercive, or inappropriate, report it through the app or email contact@zuzuhealthcare.com. Serious concerns are escalated to our Grievance Officer.
